Adult Crochet Earflap Hat Tutorial Part 2131

This is Part 2 of the Adult Crochet Earflap Hat Tutorial. In this part, we will be working on the earflaps and the brim of the hat.

Materials* Worsted weight yarn in two colors (main color and contrast color)
* Size H (5.00 mm) crochet hook
* Yarn needle
* Scissors

Abbreviations* ch: chain
* sc: single crochet
* hdc: half double crochet
* dc: double crochet
* sl st: slip stitch

Instructions

Earflaps

Row 1: Join main color yarn to the corner of the hat brim. Ch 1, sc in the same st, *hdc in the next 2 sts, dc in the next 2 sts, repeat from * across the entire brim. Turn. (80 sts)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in the next 2 sts, *hdc in the next 2 sts, dc in the next 2 sts, repeat from * across the entire row. Turn. (80 sts)
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until the earflap measures 6 inches long.
Fasten off the yarn and weave in the ends.
Repeat steps for the other earflap.

Brim

Round 1: Join contrast color yarn to the edge of the brim. Ch 1, sc in the same st, *ch 1, sc in the next st, repeat from * around the entire brim. Turn. (80 sts)
Round 2: Ch 1, sc in the next st, *ch 1, sc in the next st, repeat from * around the entire round. Turn. (80 sts)
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in the next st, *ch 1, sc in the next 2 sts, repeat from * around the entire round. Turn. (80 sts)
Round 4: Ch 1, sc in the next st, *ch 1, sc in the next 3 sts, repeat from * around the entire round. Turn. (80 sts)
Repeat Round 4 until the brim measures 1 inch wide.
Fasten off the yarn and weave in the ends.

FinishingAttach the earflaps to the hat brim: Fold the earflaps in half and align them with the center of the hat brim. Sew the earflaps to the brim using a yarn needle and contrasting thread.
Weave in any remaining ends and the hat is complete!

Tips

* You can make the earflaps shorter or longer by adjusting the number of rows you work.
* You can make the brim wider or narrower by adjusting the number of rounds you work.
* You can add a pom-pom to the top of the hat for a fun and festive look.
