How to Knit a Cable Earflap Hat234


Materials:- Worsted weight yarn
- Size 8 (5mm) knitting needles
- Cable needle
- Yarn needle
- Scissors

Gauge:- 18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch, worked flat

Instructions:

Cast On:- Cast on 80 stitches.

Brim:- Knit 1, purl 1 ribbed brim for 2.5 inches.

Body:- Row 1: Knit 1, *cable 4 left, knit 24; repeat from * across.
- Row 2: Purl 1, *knit 24, cable 4 right; repeat from * across.
- Rows 3-4: Repeat Rows 1-2.
- Rows 5-8: Knit all stitches.
- Repeat Rows 1-8 until the hat measures 5.5 inches from the cast-on edge.

Divide for Crown:- Divide the stitches into 4 equal sections of 20 stitches each.

Crown:- Sewn Bind-off:
- Divide the stitches into 4 equal sections of 20 stitches each.
- Sewn bind-off 9 stitches across the end of the first section.
- Turn the work and sew bind-off 9 stitches across the end of the next section.
- Continue in this manner until all stitches are bound off.

Earflap Liners:- Cast on 10 stitches.
- Knit until the earflap measures 4 inches from the cast-on edge.
- Bind off all stitches.
- Repeat for the other earflap.

Attach Earflap Liners:- Sew the earflap liners to the inside of the hat, leaving a gap for the ear opening.

Finishing:- Weave in any loose ends.

Tips:- For a tighter fit, use a smaller needle size.
- For a looser fit, use a larger needle size.
- You can add a pompom to the top of the hat for extra warmth and style.
- The cable pattern can be repeated as many times as desired to make the hat longer or shorter.
