Introduction

Materials



1/2 yard of fleece fabric (for the outer layer)
1/2 yard of cotton fabric (for the lining)
1/4 yard of ribbed knit fabric (for the earflaps and cuff)
Matching thread
Fabric scissors
Sewing machine
Measuring tape or ruler
Iron and ironing board (optional)

Step 1: Cut the Fabric



Outer layer: Cut two pieces of fleece fabric into 13-inch squares.
Lining: Cut two pieces of cotton fabric into 13-inch squares.
Earflaps: Cut two rectangles from the ribbed knit fabric, measuring 7 inches long by 3 inches wide.
Cuff: Cut a strip of ribbed knit fabric, measuring 18 inches long by 3 inches wide.

Step 2: Sew the Lining



Place the two pieces of cotton lining fabric right sides together.
Sew around the edges, leaving a 3-inch opening for turning.
Turn the lining right side out and press.
Topstitch around the edges, close to the seam.

Step 3: Sew the Earflaps



Fold the earflaps in half lengthwise, right sides together.

Turn the outer layer right side out and press.

Step 5: Attach the Earflaps



Place the earflaps on the inside of the outer layer, aligning the open edges.
Pin in place.
Sew around the edges of the earflaps, securing them to the outer layer.

Step 6: Insert the Lining



Insert the lining into the outer layer, right sides together.
Align the edges and pin in place.
Sew around the edges, enclosing both the outer layer and the lining.

Step 7: Sew the Cuff



Fold the cuff in half lengthwise, right sides together.
Sew around the edges, leaving the ends open.
Turn the cuff right side out and press.
Attach the cuff to the bottom edge of the hat, overlapping the raw edges by 1 inch.
Sew in place all around.

Step 8: Finishing Touches



Topstitch around the edges of the hat, close to the seam.
