How to Crochet an Earflap Beanie30

Earflap beanies are a great way to keep your head and ears warm in the winter. They're also relatively easy to crochet, making them a great project for beginners.

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn in your desired color(s)
Size H/8 (5mm) crochet hook
Yarn needle
Scissors

Instructions:Main Body of the Beanie:

Make a slip knot and crochet 6 single crochet stitches (sc) into the ring. Pull the slip knot closed to form a circle.
Round 1: Sc 2 into each sc around. (12 sc)
Round 2: Sc 1 in the 1st sc, sc 2 in the next sc, *sc 1 in the next 2 sc, sc 2 in the next sc* around. (18 sc)
Round 3: Sc 1 in each of the 1st 3 sc, *sc 1 in the next 4 sc, sc 2 in the next sc* around. (24 sc)
Continue crocheting in rounds, following the pattern of increasing by 6 sc in each round until the beanie measures about 7 inches long, or fits your head comfortably.
Once you have reached the desired length, continue crocheting in rounds, without any increases, until the beanie measures about 3 inches tall from the bottom of the ribbing.

Earflap:

Fold the beanie in half, with the seam in the center. Crochet around the folded edge, making sure to work into both layers of the beanie.
Round 1: Sc 1 in each sc around. (36 sc)
Round 2: Sc 1 in the 1st sc, *hdc 1 in the next sc, sc 1 in the next sc* around. (36 hdc)
Round 3: Hdc 1 in each hdc around. (36 hdc)
Round 4: *Hdc 2 tog, hdc 1* around. (24 hdc)
Round 5: Hdc 1 in each hdc around. (24 hdc)
Round 6: *Hdc 2 tog, hdc 1* around. (18 hdc)
Round 7: Hdc 1 in each hdc around. (18 hdc)
Round 8: *Hdc 2 tog, hdc 1* around. (12 hdc)
Round 9: Hdc 1 in each hdc around. (12 hdc)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Tassels:

Cut a piece of yarn about 12 inches long.
Fold the yarn in half and make a loop at the top. Tie the loop around the center of the earflap.
Divide the yarn into 6 strands and braid them together. Trim the ends to make tassels of even length.
