Crochet Earflap Hat Pattern for Winter83


Materials:* Worsted weight yarn (140 yards)
* 5.0 mm (US H/8) crochet hook
* Yarn needle

Gauge: 10 stitches and 11 rows per 4 inches in half double crochet stitch.Notes:
* The pattern is for an adult size hat. To make a smaller or larger hat, adjust the number of stitches and rows accordingly.
* The brim of the hat can be folded up or down.
* The earflaps can be tied up or left down.
Instructions for Crocheting the Earflap Hat:
Brim:
1. Chain 50.
2. Join to form a ring.
3. Half double crochet (hdc) 20 stitches into the ring. (1 stitch per chain)
4. Join to complete round.
5. Work in the round, hdc 20 for 5 rounds.
6. Fold the brim up and slip stitch the folded edge to the inside of the hat.
Crown:
1. Change to single crochet (sc).
2. Sc 20 around.
3. Join to complete round.
4. Sc 20 for 4 rounds.
5. Change to half double crochet (hdc).
6. Hdc 20 around.
7. Join to complete round.
8. Hdc 20 for 3 rounds.
9. Change to double crochet (dc).
10. Dc 20 around.
11. Join to complete round.
12. Dc 20 for 2 rounds.
Earflaps:
1. Chain 10.
2. Turn and sc 9.
3. Change to hdc.
4. Hdc 9 for 10 rounds.
5. Change to dc.
6. Dc 9 for 2 rounds.
7. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
8. Repeat steps 1-7 to make the second earflap.
Assembling the Hat:
1. Center the earflaps on either side of the hat and sew them in place.
2. Weave in any loose ends.
Finishing:
1. Pompom: Make a pompom using the instructions on the yarn label.
2. Sew the pompom to the top of the hat.
